Happy New Year!

I hope you and yours had a great New Year, and successfully avoided the Amateur Night. Best wishes from Lisa and I!

...and to you! Spent the afternoon and evening of New Year's Eve in bed with a humongous gout attack, but the meds conquered it in 24 hours. Whilst passing the passing of '08 wide awake and nauseous from the combo of gout med and Oxycodone, I listened to and analyzed the local midnight gunfire.

It ran to mostly shotguns, a change from previous years when several AKs and the occasional AR could be heard amongst the pistols.

One guy with a semi-auto hunting rifle with a 4-round mag, ripping off mags as fast as he could load ammo into it (must have had only one magazine).

One guy trying to fan-fire a pistol, only succeeded with a triple-tap once out of four magazines.

No holes in the house visible from the inside, anyway. Too foul to go outside.

May not be a good year for me, I forgot to buy the the black-eyed peas.

Well, I'm glad there was no obvious damage... didn't actually hear any gunfire in this part of Ft. Worth. Did have a grassfire Wednesday afternoon that got uncomfortably close to the shop; Volunteer Fire Dept. dealt with it promptly enough, though.

Bad planning on the black-eyed peas. Lisa made sure I bought a couple of pounds early in the week, and she sure did them right!

I also learned a tradition today I had been previously unaware of - black-eyed peas for luck, and cabbage for money. So this afternoon we went out to the garden, picked collard greens, broccoli, and cabbage, and ate the cabbage about four hours after it was picked - again, Lisa did a wonderful job on it!

Well, I had peas for lunch AND dinner, I'll see if I can't send some share of it your way.
